After the second military coup in 1962 (first was a caretaker government in 1959) the Burmese Military Junta under Ne Win used to boast about their finances as how much exchange they have saying that the exchange rate of Kyat 6.4 to one US dollar would never depreciate. Since then it has become an unwritten law as the country economy has gone down slowly due to the dunderhead of the Generals as one Junta after another have little or no idea of what is wrong with the economy, little realizing that they themselves are the wrong persons to be in power. The people of Burma label them as Ché Brain (shit brain) just like what most MP of the USDP is today. Slowly after more than half a century theses men in uniform realized that Burma’s multiple exchange rate is the most noticeable of the maladies that have characterized the country’s economy, hence they opted for the change.

When President Hu Jintao visited US in January this year both leaders declared their shared obsession of “Positive cooperation and comprehensive bilateral relations.” but the underlying trends could not be neglected. Based on the recent actions of China, most American and foreign strategic thinkers construe that China is displacing the US as a pre-eminent power in Asia and the Pacific to suit the Chinese economic and foreign policy interests.

Environmentalists claim that scenic Inle Lake, Burma's second largest inland body of water, needs urgent attention to prevent severe poisoning from pesticides and aggressive development.
“There have been reports of water poisoning in some areas. The water in certain areas is not clean enough to drink,” said U Ohn, general secretary of the Forest Resource Environment Development and Conservation Association.
